Onboard weighing built for the waste sector
Landfill reduction and recycling targets are squeezing margins in waste management. Every trip counts, so refuse collection and waste transport companies need to carry as much as each vehicle legally can, without the cost and risk of an overload.
WasteWeigh from VPG Onboard Weighing gives drivers an accurate, live reading of their load from the first lift to the last. It comes in two versions, WasteWeigh 1155 and WasteWeigh 1300, which share the same weighing system and standard features and differ in their indicator and a few capabilities. Several thousand of our waste systems are already working on vehicles across the UK and Europe.
Continuous weighing from the first bin to the tip
Up to eight load cells weigh the vehicle throughout the journey, giving gross, net and individual axle weights to ±0.5% of full scale or better. The readings stay accurate in the wet, dirty and stop-start conditions of a collection round.
Weight builds with every lift, so WasteWeigh keeps watching. It warns the driver as limits approach, and stops the compactor if they are reached.
On WasteWeigh 1155, Barrier Control adds one more step: when the rear axles near their limit, the compactor sweeps forward to move load toward the front of the body.

Axle-by-axle visibility for the driver, automatic protection at the limit, and a clear view of the rear of the vehicle.
Axle Watch
The weight on each axle is shown separately, so the driver can spot an uneven load before it turns into an axle overload.
Packer Plate Shutdown
When the net or gross limit is reached, the compaction unit shuts down so no more waste can be loaded. Only an override key switch, held by an authorised person, turns it back on.
Barrier Control (WasteWeigh 1155)
As the rear axles near their limit, Barrier Control signals the compaction unit to sweep forward and spread the load along the body.
CCTV safety and surveillance (WasteWeigh 1300)
Up to three cameras. A live feed from the rear meets visibility requirements during loading and appears on the same screen as the weights.
Audio and visual overload alarms
Net payload and gross vehicle weight are monitored at all times. The driver hears and sees a warning before a limit is passed.
Weights away from the cab
Add the 511 FreeWeigh handheld, a remote display or VPG Connect, which sends weight data to a phone or tablet over WiFi.
One weighing system, two indicators to choose from
WasteWeigh 1155
The 1155 indicator fits a DIN radio slot or mounts on the dash, and is simple to operate. It includes every standard feature, such as live load tracking for collections and deliveries and Packer Plate Shutdown, and supports all options apart from CCTV. Barrier Control is available only on the 1155.
WasteWeigh 1300
The 1300 has a full colour dash mount touchscreen and adds support for up to three CCTV cameras. Camera images and live weighing data share one screen, so the driver can follow loading without leaving the cab. Better visibility helps prevent accidents, and the repair costs and downtime that come with them.

WasteWeigh is an onboard weighing system for refuse collection and recycling vehicles of 17 to 32 tonnes. It weighs the vehicle continuously throughout the round, shows gross, net and individual axle weights in the cab, and warns the driver or stops loading before a legal weight limit is exceeded.
What is the difference between WasteWeigh 1155 and WasteWeigh 1300?
Both share the same weighing system and standard features. The 1155 has a DIN radio slot indicator and includes Barrier Control. The 1300 has a full colour dash mount touchscreen and supports up to three CCTV cameras, with camera images and weights on one screen.
How accurate is WasteWeigh?
WasteWeigh uses up to eight load cells and is accurate to ±0.5% of full scale or better for gross, net and individual axle weights.
What is Packer Plate Shutdown?
When the net or gross load limit is reached, WasteWeigh automatically shuts down the compaction unit so no more waste can be loaded. It can only be switched back on with an override key switch, which should be held by an authorised person.
What does Barrier Control do?
Barrier Control is available on WasteWeigh 1155. When the rear axle load is close to its limit, it signals the compaction mechanism to sweep forward and move the load toward the front of the body, so the rear axles stay within their limit.
Can I see WasteWeigh readings away from the cab?
Yes. The 511 FreeWeigh handheld display, a remote display and VPG Connect are available as options. VPG Connect sends weight data over WiFi to a smartphone or tablet and also provides vehicle tracking across the fleet.
How is WasteWeigh different from BinWeigh 03?
WasteWeigh weighs the whole vehicle and each axle to prevent overloading. BinWeigh 03 weighs each wheelie bin on the lifter so that individual customers can be billed by weight.
